I was moved constantly as a child. Different houses, different schools, different states — enough that I stopped unpacking. I did not grow up with my father. I learned very early how to be the one who holds things together, and I called it strength, because there was no other word available for it.

I raised four children. I came apart inside a marriage and put myself back together afterward. Somewhere in there I went looking — properly looking — through the foundations of nearly every religion I could get my hands on, because I wanted to know what was actually true underneath all of it.

In my late thirties, it found me instead.

What happened was a Kundalini awakening — the fire that moves up the spine and burns through what is blocked, whether or not you are ready for it. I have been outside my own body. I have watched the transits of my own chart arrive on schedule and take exactly what they came to take. None of that was on a syllabus.

I say this not because your path has to look like mine — it almost certainly won’t — but so you know what kind of person built this, and what they are drawing on when they say the shadow is not your enemy.

Most astrology tells you what is going to happen. I am not interested in that, and I do not believe it works.

A natal chart is not a forecast. It is a map of a pattern you have been living inside since the moment you were born — the raw material you were handed, what the alchemists called the prima materia. The work is not to predict your future. It is to name the pattern precisely enough that you recognise it, and then to see what it is asking to become.

That is why every reading here moves through the four stages the alchemists named: Nigredo, the blackening — what you inherited. Albedo, the whitening — what you are separating from. Citrinitas, the yellowing — what is beginning to shine through. Rubedo, the reddening — what you are here to make.

It is Jung’s work as much as it is Hermes’. The shadow is not the part of you to be fixed. It is the part of you that has not been looked at — and looking is the whole of it. As above, so below. Your chart is the macrocosm; your life is the microcosm. The reading shows you the correspondence.

It also is not a replacement for people. If you are in real trouble, the thing that helps is a human being who knows you — a friend, a therapist, a doctor. Please go and find one. A reading can name the shape of a thing. It cannot hold you while you go through it.
