Leo is fixed fire — the sign of the heart, of creative self-expression, of the need to shine and be seen. Leo is why this apex is what it is. The need (Moon) fused to the fire (Mars) in the sign that must be seen — and then stationed in the 6th house of humble service, where being seen is not permitted, only being useful. So the Leo hunger goes into work, disguised as diligence, and the fire turns to heat in the body when the seeing never comes. The whole gate of the chart — everything that must pass from the South Node to the North Node — is this: a Leo need for recognition that a spiritual, serious, self-sufficient person is not supposed to admit. The sign is the reason the admission is so hard, and the reason it is the key to everything.
