Aries

Aries is the first sign — pure beginning, the will before it has learned to doubt itself. It is cardinal fire: the impulse to start, to move, to go, arriving before the plan does. Aries is courage in its rawest form, and impatience as its shadow. Whatever planet sits in Aries acts first and considers afterward.

The gift is initiation — the capacity to begin what others only deliberate about. The cost is everything that requires patience, endurance, and finishing.

Aries is ruled by Mars and is the sign of the Sun's exaltation — the place where the solar will is most itself, uncompromised. It is cardinal (initiating), fire (spirited), and masculine/diurnal in the old scheme. Its symbol is the Ram, and it governs the head — Aries leads with it, in every sense.

The tradition read Aries as the springtime sign, the vernal equinox, the moment the year's force breaks the ground. It is beginning as a cosmic principle: not the beginning of one thing, but the quality of beginning itself.

A planet in Aries acts directly, quickly, and on its own initiative. The Sun in Aries: a self that must lead and pioneer. The Moon in Aries: an emotional life that needs action and independence, that gets restless when held. Mercury in Aries: a fast, blunt, decisive mind. Mars in Aries: at home — force at full, undiluted strength.

The shadow is impatience and self-interest — not malice, but a difficulty seeing past the immediate impulse to the other person, or to the consequence. Aries planets start brilliantly and abandon readily.

But consider Aries on an angle, rising or on the Midheaven: the person arrives in the world at speed, met by others as direct, forceful, unmissable.
